Gearjits Solar System

The Gearjits Solar System by Mindware is a mechanical wooden assembly kit that lets builders construct a working 14-inch model of our solar system. Designed for older kids, teens, and adults, this project blends hands-on building with practical physics as you piece together a mechanical desktop orrery.

Builders assemble 316 precut wooden pieces, securing steel shafts, gears, and eight painted wooden planets using the included tools and hardware. Once built, turning the hand crank engages an internal gear system and electric generator that turns on an LED light in the sun while sending the planets orbiting at their correct relative speeds.

• Hands-On Challenge: Takes an average of 10 hours to assemble using step-by-step illustrated instructions.
• Complete Set: Includes 7 wood sheets with 316 precut pieces, 8 painted wooden planets, 11 steel shafts, fasteners, electric generator, LED light, screwdriver, sandpaper, and wax.
• Mechanical Action: Features a hidden gear assembly in the base that drives planetary rotation via hand crank.
• Display Size: Assembled model stands 14 inches tall.
• Recommended Age: Ages 12 and up.
